On February 7, 2011, SITEX decided to start converting their cotton bar towel customers to their new product, the microfiber bar towel.
This product change needed to happen for many reasons:
- The cotton bar towel did not have as long of a lifespan as needed.
- Customers were limited on where they could use the cotton bar towel due to lint and the overall quality of the towel.
- The microfiber bar towel turned out to be more absorbent than the cotton towel.
- Also, cotton suppliers were constantly setting price increases in which SITEX could only take so much before they had to set increases themselves to their customers.
Since the launching of the microfiber bar towel in the Henderson/Evansville/Owensboro market area, customers having been raving about the new towel. Jerry Maggard, District Manager of Henderson, states, “We have only had one customer decide they didn’t want the microfiber bar towel, and it was because they knew they couldn’t use it around hot surfaces. All of the other customers love the new product!”
SITEX will be converting all of their customers from the cotton bar towel to the microfiber bar towel strategically throughout 2011. We will definitely keep you posted on the status of this change as SITEX is setting the new trend in many markets with the introduction of microfiber.

With cotton prices skyrocketing recently, many companies are looking elsewhere for their towel supply. To keep expenses in line for industrial laundry companies and their customers, many are looking to microfiber to help alleviate price increases.
When we really started looking into microfiber, here’s what we found…
- Microfiber has exceptional absorbency. Microfiber has high density fibers that absorb 6 to 8 times their weight in water.
- Microfiber cleans all types of surfaces...wet or dry.
- Microfiber attracts and removes up to 5 times more dirt and grime than the standard cotton towel.
- Microfiber is truly lint free! This eliminates shedding problems.
- Microfiber is a lighter weight towel. It reduces storage requirements and is easier to use.
- Microfiber is easier and faster to clean.
- Microfiber helps with sanitation. It removes bacteria with only tap water and eliminates messy buckets and mop water.
- Microfiber is non-abrasive. It has exceptional polishing results and will not damage sensitive surfaces.
During extensive product testing at SITEX’s Henderson location, microfiber outperformed cotton in many different areas. With the increases cotton companies are demanding and with microfiber becoming the new “hot” item, I bet you will start to see microfiber a lot more.

Many businesses especially restaurants use many different types of towels in their program. This can be costly to the both the customer and the linen rental company that you use. In order for both to save on cost, the customer needs to be educated on the different types of towels offered and more importantly, which ones they should be using for particular jobs.
Bar Towels - These should be used in areas such as wiping counters and tables. This very absorbent towel is ideal where light to medium soil is encountered for general cleaning jobs. This towel should not be used around heavy grease or scorching heat areas!
Soda Towels - These are for drying or polishing in light to medium soil applications. The soda towel should be a very low lint towel making it the perfect towel for glass and glass-ware. This towel should not be used around heavy grease or scorching heat areas!
Cleaning Towel - This is a heavy hitter!! You need to use this towel in areas where soil is heavy. The cleaning towel loves grease and grime, and can take it. The towel should be very absorbent, utility grade towel designed to handle the heavier cleaning jobs, BUT this towel should not be used around scorching heat.
Grill Pad - This one takes the heat! The grill pad should be used in areas where heat, grease, and grime are present. It is layered to protect your hands and handle the heat. This towel is great for grill cleaning, pots, pans and other high heat, heavy soil areas.
After reading this, you probably need to review your current linen rental program to make sure you are using the correct towels in the correct areas. Once this is done, you will be saving more money by not having to pay replacement and/or damage charges and might be able to lower your inventory levels on other towels!
